About Every Mother Counts
Founded by Christy Turlington Burns, Every Mother Counts (EMC) is a nonprofit dedicated to making pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care safe, respectful, and equitable for everyone, everywhere. As one of the most recognized maternal health initiatives globally, the Every Mother Counts charity has become synonymous with advocacy, education, and action around maternal care. Christy founded the organization after experiencing childbirth complications herself and learning that countless maternal deaths around the world are preventable with access to proper care.
Since 2010, EMC has invested in maternal healthcare solutions and community-led support systems around the world. Their work is far-reaching, spanning support for midwives and doulas, improved transportation access for mothers in rural communities, and programs that directly impact maternal health outcomes.
At its core, Every Mother Counts is built on the belief that every mother, no matter their circumstance, deserves quality care.
That message resonates with me, bringing me back to the birth of my first daughter. Without access to proper care, it could have become a life-threatening situation for both of us.
